Professional Tree Permitting & Compliance Support From ISA Certified Arborists

Tree removal, pruning, construction, and development projects can require permits and professional arborist documentation to meet local tree protection ordinances. 4th Generation Tree simplifies the tree permitting process with ISA Certified Arborist evaluations, detailed reports, tree inventories, protection recommendations, application support, and compliance oversight. Our team works with property owners, developers, HOAs, contractors, and municipalities throughout San Luis Obispo County to help projects move forward while protecting regulated, native, heritage, and high-value trees.

What we do

Tree Permit Evaluations & Arborist Reports

Our ISA Certified Arborists evaluate tree species, size, condition, location, and surrounding site conditions to help determine applicable permitting requirements and prepare the documentation needed for agency review.

Permit Applications & Agency Coordination

We help organize the photographs, tree inventories, justification letters, protection plans, and supporting information required for permit applications while assisting with agency questions and requested revisions.

Tree Protection & Mitigation Planning

When permits require tree preservation, replacement planting, protected root zones, or other mitigation measures, we develop practical recommendations designed to help projects meet applicable requirements.

Construction & Permit Compliance Oversight

Our arborists can monitor permitted tree work and construction activities to verify required protection measures are followed and provide documentation for final inspections or agency review.

What drives the price

01

Access

Can a chipper and a grapple truck get within reach of the trunk, or is everything coming out through a 36-inch gate by hand? This is the single biggest variable.

02

Drop zone

Open ground under the canopy means we can fell and buck. A pool, a patio or a neighbour's roof underneath means rigging or a crane, and the day gets longer.

03

Size, species and condition

Green oak weighs far more than dry pine of the same diameter, and a decayed trunk can't be climbed — both change the method before they change the price.

04

Stump and debris

Grinding is quoted with the removal. Say the word and we leave the rounds bucked for firewood, or chip everything and haul it out.

HOW IT COMES DOWN

Climbed, rigged or picked by crane

The method is decided on site by the arborist, not sold to you in advance. A tree in the open gets felled. A tree over a roof gets rigged down piece by piece, or lifted out whole by crane when that is faster and safer for the structure underneath.

Permitting & Compliance questions

When is a tree permit required?

Tree permit requirements vary by jurisdiction, but permits may be required when removing or significantly pruning protected trees, working near native or heritage trees, performing construction within tree protection areas, or conducting tree work within public rights-of-way.

An ISA Certified Arborist can evaluate the affected trees, prepare professional reports, document tree condition and characteristics, recommend preservation or mitigation measures, and provide supporting information required by local agencies.

Depending on the project and jurisdiction, an application may include photographs, tree species and measurements, condition assessments, site plans, tree inventories, removal justification, replacement planting recommendations, and Tree Protection and Preservation Plans.

Yes. We assist developers, property owners, contractors, architects, and project managers with tree permitting, protection planning, construction monitoring, and compliance documentation for projects that may affect existing trees.

Approved permits may contain conditions such as replacement planting, tree protection fencing, root-zone protection, arborist supervision, construction monitoring, or post-project inspections, and our arborists can help ensure those requirements are properly followed.

What clients say

★★★★★

I love working with local family owned businesses, and they exceeded expectations! Hard working crew, especially Jeferson the lead, he was extremely knowledgeable on pruning our oaks. We’re on almost three acres, and our views have never been better.

Morgan and his team at 4th Generation Tree were a HUGE help to us. They were easy to work with, flexible, and very accommodating as we worked through several tree removal and trimming needs across our church property. Their work improved both the safety and appearance of our grounds. I highly recommend!!!

Casey, Morgan, and their crew at 4th Generation did a great job trimming our Oak trees, removing three big pines and grinding the stumps. It was a big job and they managed it perfectly! They have been trimming our oak trees for years and we are always happy with the results! Thanks again!
