Expert Tree Trimming & Pruning for Healthier, Safer Trees

Proper pruning does more than improve the appearance of your trees—it helps protect their health, structure, and longevity. With more than 70 years of local experience, 4th Generation Tree provides professional tree trimming and pruning throughout Paso Robles, Atascadero, Templeton, Cambria, San Luis Obispo, and surrounding communities. Our certified arborists use proven pruning techniques and ISA-aligned practices to remove hazardous growth, improve tree structure, encourage healthy development, and preserve the natural beauty of your landscape.

Benefits of Professional Tree Pruning

Protect Tree Health

Our arborists remove unhealthy or competing growth using proper pruning techniques designed to encourage natural healing while reducing the risk of disease and decay.

Improve Structural Stability

Strategic pruning helps create balanced branch structures, reduce excessive limb weight, and minimize weak growth that could lead to future breakage.

Reduce Property Hazards

We identify and remove dead, damaged, unstable, or overextended branches before they become a danger to people, buildings, vehicles, or surrounding landscaping.

Preserve Natural Beauty

Every tree is pruned according to its species, age, condition, and natural growth pattern so it maintains an attractive appearance without unnecessary topping or over-thinning.

What drives the price

01

Access

Can a chipper and a grapple truck get within reach of the trunk, or is everything coming out through a 36-inch gate by hand? This is the single biggest variable.

02

Drop zone

Open ground under the canopy means we can fell and buck. A pool, a patio or a neighbour's roof underneath means rigging or a crane, and the day gets longer.

03

Size, species and condition

Green oak weighs far more than dry pine of the same diameter, and a decayed trunk can't be climbed — both change the method before they change the price.

04

Stump and debris

Grinding is quoted with the removal. Say the word and we leave the rounds bucked for firewood, or chip everything and haul it out.

HOW IT COMES DOWN

Climbed, rigged or picked by crane

The method is decided on site by the arborist, not sold to you in advance. A tree in the open gets felled. A tree over a roof gets rigged down piece by piece, or lifted out whole by crane when that is faster and safer for the structure underneath.

Tree pruning questions

How often should trees be professionally trimmed or pruned?

The ideal pruning schedule depends on the tree species, age, location, condition, and growth rate. Some trees benefit from routine maintenance every few years, while young, damaged, or fast-growing trees may require more frequent attention. A certified arborist can recommend the appropriate schedule for each tree.

Professional pruning helps remove damaged or diseased branches, improve structural strength, manage excessive growth, increase airflow, and reduce potential hazards. Proper pruning can also help trees maintain their natural form and remain healthier over the long term.

Tree trimming often focuses on controlling growth and maintaining appearance, while pruning is typically more focused on tree health, structure, and the selective removal of specific branches. Professional arborist services often combine both approaches depending on the needs of the tree.

Certain protected trees, including some native oaks and heritage trees, may be subject to county or municipal regulations. 4th Generation Tree can help determine whether permits or approvals are required and assist with navigating applicable regulations before work begins.

4th Generation Tree provides professional tree trimming and pruning services throughout San Luis Obispo County, including Paso Robles, Atascadero, Templeton, Cambria, San Luis Obispo, and surrounding Central Coast communities.

What clients say

★★★★★

I love working with local family owned businesses, and they exceeded expectations! Hard working crew, especially Jeferson the lead, he was extremely knowledgeable on pruning our oaks. We’re on almost three acres, and our views have never been better.

★★★★★

Morgan and his team at 4th Generation Tree were a HUGE help to us. They were easy to work with, flexible, and very accommodating as we worked through several tree removal and trimming needs across our church property. Their work improved both the safety and appearance of our grounds. I highly recommend!!!

Garrett Kruse

★★★★★

Casey, Morgan, and their crew at 4th Generation did a great job trimming our Oak trees, removing three big pines and grinding the stumps. It was a big job and they managed it perfectly! They have been trimming our oak trees for years and we are always happy with the results! Thanks again!
