Certified Arborist Oversight for Tree Protection During Construction

Construction activity can place significant stress on nearby trees through excavation, soil compaction, root disturbance, grading, and equipment damage. 4th Generation Tree provides certified arborist construction monitoring and site oversight to help ensure approved Tree Protection & Preservation Plans are followed throughout the project. Our ISA Certified Arborists coordinate with contractors, engineers, developers, and project managers to protect root zones, prevent canopy damage, document compliance, and support successful project completion throughout San Luis Obispo County.

What we do

Pre-Construction Tree Protection Planning

Our arborists identify trees that may be affected by construction and establish protection zones, access limitations, and site procedures before work begins.

On-Site Arborist Monitoring

We monitor excavation, grading, trenching, and other construction activities near trees to help reduce root damage, soil compaction, canopy injury, and other avoidable impacts.

Compliance Documentation & Reporting

Each site visit can include written observations, photographs, and compliance documentation that help demonstrate adherence to approved tree protection plans and permit conditions.

Post-Construction Tree Evaluation

After major construction activities are complete, our arborists evaluate tree condition and recommend any follow-up care needed to support recovery, stability, and long-term health.

What drives the price

01

Access

Can a chipper and a grapple truck get within reach of the trunk, or is everything coming out through a 36-inch gate by hand? This is the single biggest variable.

02

Drop zone

Open ground under the canopy means we can fell and buck. A pool, a patio or a neighbour's roof underneath means rigging or a crane, and the day gets longer.

03

Size, species and condition

Green oak weighs far more than dry pine of the same diameter, and a decayed trunk can't be climbed — both change the method before they change the price.

04

Stump and debris

Grinding is quoted with the removal. Say the word and we leave the rounds bucked for firewood, or chip everything and haul it out.

HOW IT COMES DOWN

Climbed, rigged or picked by crane

The method is decided on site by the arborist, not sold to you in advance. A tree in the open gets felled. A tree over a roof gets rigged down piece by piece, or lifted out whole by crane when that is faster and safer for the structure underneath.

Construction Monitoring questions

Why is arborist monitoring important during construction?

Arborist monitoring helps reduce damage to roots, trunks, branches, and surrounding soil while ensuring construction activities remain consistent with approved tree protection requirements.

An arborist may be needed during grading, excavation, trenching, root pruning, foundation work, utility installation, or any other activity occurring within or near a protected tree’s root zone.

A site visit may include inspection of tree protection fencing, monitoring of excavation or grading, supervision of root pruning, evaluation of soil and root-zone impacts, photographs, and written compliance documentation.

Yes. Arborist monitoring and documentation can help demonstrate that required tree protection measures are being followed and may support compliance with municipal or county permit conditions.

If significant roots are encountered, an arborist can evaluate the situation and recommend appropriate pruning, protection, or construction adjustments to reduce unnecessary damage and preserve tree stability when possible.

What clients say

★★★★★

I love working with local family owned businesses, and they exceeded expectations! Hard working crew, especially Jeferson the lead, he was extremely knowledgeable on pruning our oaks. We’re on almost three acres, and our views have never been better.

★★★★★

Morgan and his team at 4th Generation Tree were a HUGE help to us. They were easy to work with, flexible, and very accommodating as we worked through several tree removal and trimming needs across our church property. Their work improved both the safety and appearance of our grounds. I highly recommend!!!

Garrett Kruse

★★★★★

Casey, Morgan, and their crew at 4th Generation did a great job trimming our Oak trees, removing three big pines and grinding the stumps. It was a big job and they managed it perfectly! They have been trimming our oak trees for years and we are always happy with the results! Thanks again!
