Professional Tree Protection & Preservation Plans for Construction and Development Projects

Construction activity can cause long-term damage to trees through root disturbance, soil compaction, grading, excavation, and canopy impacts. 4th Generation Tree creates detailed Tree Protection and Preservation Plans designed to protect existing trees before, during, and after construction while helping projects meet local permitting and ordinance requirements. Our ISA Certified Arborists work with property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors throughout San Luis Obispo County to identify sensitive trees, establish protection zones, document site conditions, and support long-term tree health.

What we do

Pre-Construction Tree Assessment & Inventory

Our ISA Certified Arborists document tree species, size, health, condition, location, and root-zone considerations to establish a clear baseline before construction begins.

Tree Protection Zones & Site Planning

We designate Tree Protection Zones with recommended fencing, equipment exclusion areas, root protection measures, and construction limitations designed to reduce impacts to valuable trees.

Construction Monitoring & Compliance

Our arborists can monitor grading, excavation, trenching, and other work near protected trees to help ensure approved protection measures remain in place and project requirements are followed.

Post-Construction Tree Evaluation

After construction is complete, we assess protected trees for signs of stress or damage and provide recommendations for follow-up care, monitoring, and long-term preservation.

What drives the price

01

Access

Can a chipper and a grapple truck get within reach of the trunk, or is everything coming out through a 36-inch gate by hand? This is the single biggest variable.

02

Drop zone

Open ground under the canopy means we can fell and buck. A pool, a patio or a neighbour's roof underneath means rigging or a crane, and the day gets longer.

03

Size, species and condition

Green oak weighs far more than dry pine of the same diameter, and a decayed trunk can't be climbed — both change the method before they change the price.

04

Stump and debris

Grinding is quoted with the removal. Say the word and we leave the rounds bucked for firewood, or chip everything and haul it out.

HOW IT COMES DOWN

Climbed, rigged or picked by crane

The method is decided on site by the arborist, not sold to you in advance. A tree in the open gets felled. A tree over a roof gets rigged down piece by piece, or lifted out whole by crane when that is faster and safer for the structure underneath.

Tree Protection & Preservation plan questions

What is a Tree Protection and Preservation Plan?

A Tree Protection and Preservation Plan is a professional document that identifies trees affected by construction, establishes protection zones, outlines preservation measures, and provides recommendations for reducing damage during development.

A Tree Protection Plan may be required when construction, grading, excavation, utility installation, or other development activity takes place near protected, native, heritage, or otherwise regulated trees.

A typical plan may include a tree inventory, site map, species and condition information, Tree Protection Zones, fencing locations, root protection measures, pruning recommendations, construction restrictions, and post-construction monitoring requirements.

Tree Protection Zones establish controlled areas around trees where grading, excavation, equipment traffic, material storage, soil compaction, and other potentially damaging activities are limited or prohibited.

Yes. Our ISA Certified Arborists can provide construction monitoring and site oversight to verify protection measures are being followed, document site conditions, and recommend adjustments when construction activities affect protected trees.

What clients say

★★★★★

I love working with local family owned businesses, and they exceeded expectations! Hard working crew, especially Jeferson the lead, he was extremely knowledgeable on pruning our oaks. We’re on almost three acres, and our views have never been better.

Morgan and his team at 4th Generation Tree were a HUGE help to us. They were easy to work with, flexible, and very accommodating as we worked through several tree removal and trimming needs across our church property. Their work improved both the safety and appearance of our grounds. I highly recommend!!!

Garrett Kruse

★★★★★

Casey, Morgan, and their crew at 4th Generation did a great job trimming our Oak trees, removing three big pines and grinding the stumps. It was a big job and they managed it perfectly! They have been trimming our oak trees for years and we are always happy with the results! Thanks again!
